Build History

• 12/27/2013 – took Purchased Estes #3016 Long Tom from Estes for $4.09 (Retail $26.99).
• 03/29/2018 – Took pictures of package and components. Scanned some parts, decals and instructions.
• 04/06/2018 – Measured components and recorded them in Book #4 Page 26. Made a copy of shock cord mount and fin marking guide. Cut out the copies. Glued Screw Eye into bottom of balsa adapter.
• 04/07/2018 – Marked each motor mount tube at 5/8″ & 1/8″. Glued engine block inside forward end of motor mount tube at the 1/8″ mark of each tube. Glued centering rings to both tubes.
• 04/08/2018 – Filleted centering ring joints with yellow glue. Marked both tubes for fin placement and glued fins in place with yellow glue.
• 04/09/2018 – Filleted fin joints on both pieces. Glued motor mount assembly into each piece. Glued tube coupler into rear end of booster tube. Glued launch lug 1-1/2″ from aft end of second stage.
• 04/12/2018 – Glued shock cord to shock cord mount and then 1-1/2″ inside forward end of second stage upper tube.
• 04/13/2018 – Tied other end of shock cord to screw eye.
• 09/19/2019 – Spray painted entire model with Krylon Red Primer.
• 09/23/2023 – Wiped upper stage with alcohol wiper. Spray painted upper stage body tube, balsa adapter and balsa nose cone with Rust-o-leum #328373 High Gloss White.
• 09/25/2023 – Masked booster body tube.
• 09/26/2023 – Spray painted booster fins with Rust-o-leum # 328374 High Gloss Black. Masked body tube & adapter shoulder of sustainer unit.
• 09/27/2023 – Spray painted fins with Rust-o-leum #328374 High Gloss Black and spray painted nose cone, upper body tube and adapter with Rust-o-leum # 3228373 High Gloss White. Removed masking.
• 12/11/2023 – Cut decals from decal sheet and applied water slide decals to model. This completes constuction of Estes #3016 Long Tom model rocket. Took picture of finished model rocket.
