ESTES Model #1406
Estes #1406 Alpha III Starter Kit is an easy model rocket to construct but is a bit challenging for the novice. The plastic fin can assures the fins are properly aligned to the body tube. The decals gives the model an good look and the orange color makes it an easy rocket to find.

- 03/12/2005 – Purchased Estes #1406 Alpha III Starter Set at NARCON 2005 For $11.91 (Retail $24.99).
- 05/14/2005 – Started rocket construction. Took pictures and measurements. Made marks on blue engine tube at 1″ & 2-1/4″. Cut a 1/8″ slot at the 2-1/4″ mark and installed the engine retainer. Glued mylar etainer ring over the engine retainer at the 1″ mark. Glued green engine ring with slit on aft end of motor tube. Glued upper centering ring to motor mount along with engine ring with slit. Glued the motor mount assembly inside the body with the aft slit ring even with the aft end of the body tube. Glued launch lug even withe the rear of the body tube. Made a copy of the shock cord mount and cut it out. Screwed the screw eye into the base of the nose cone.
- 05/16/2005 – Filleted the launch lug joints. Glued rear of body tube over centering ring and upper shoulder of fin unit. Glued the shock cord to the shock cord mount. Glued shock cord mount assembly inside upper body tube 1″ from forward edge. Tied other en of shock to nose cone screw eye. Applied decals as per pictures. This completes construction of Estes #1409 Alpha III starter set.
