Description

Standing just over 20 inches tall, this mini engine powered rocket packs some punch when launched on an A10-3T. The Sequoia is quick off the launch pad and soars to 350 feet so you better keep your eyes open when it takes off.

Build History

  • 11/29/2019 – Purchased Estes Sequoia from Estes for $4.39 (Retail $14.99).
  • 12/07/2019 – Took pictures of package.
  • 02/15/2020 – Opened package, took pictures and scanned contents. Cut tube marking guide and shock cord mount from a copy. Removed balsa parts from balsa sheet and sanded them smooth. Rounded leading and tapered trailing edges. Marked motor mount tube at 1/2″ and 1-1/4″ from aft end. Cut 1/8″ slit at 1-1/4″ mark and inserted engine hook. Glued engine block into forward end of motor mount tube. Glued engine hook retainer ring at 1/2″ mark. Cut one centering ring 1/8″ and glued it against the retainer ring. Glued other centering ring even with forward end of motor mount tube. Marked main body tube for fin and launch lug locations. Glued fins on reference lines even with aft end of body tube. Glued launch lug to stand off and then 1/2″ from both ends. Glued nose cone. Glued shock cord to mount and inside forward end of body tube by at least 2″. Filleted all joints.
  • 09/04/2023 – Sanded balsa parts with 120 & 220 grit sandpaper. Sanded entire model with 600 grit sand paper and then wiped with alcohol wiper. Spray painted entire model rocket with Rust-o-leum # 328373 High Gloss White.
  • 09/07/2023 – Masked model as per photo card. Spray painted nose cone, adapter, and one fin with Krylon #1910 True Blue Gloss. Removed masking.
  • 09/09/2023 – Masked lower section to expose two fins only.
  • 09/10/2023 – Spray painted two fins with Rust-o-leum #326374 High Gloss Black. Removed masking.
  • 12/16/2023 – Applied water slide decals to model using photo card as guide. This completes construction of Estes #7238 Sequoia model rocket. Took picture of finished model rocket.
