Description

The Black Diamond builds easily and beautifully with pre-finished body tubes and black plastic fin canister and nose cone. No painting needed! The fins have already been attached to the one-piece fin canister for an ultra-quick build. The long upper body tube doubles up as a payload section.

Build History

  • 08/23/2004 – Purchased Estes #1452 Black Diamond from Walmart in Seymour, IN for $8.98 (Retail $17.50).
  • 12/06/2004 – Took pictures of bag. Opened package and took pictures of components. Scanned plans, decal, fin sheet, fin, nose cone and color card. Measured a few of the parts and added them to page 126 Book #2. Using engine tube, marked on end and glued engine block 1/4″ inside from end. Marked body tube aft end for fins and extended guide lines using door jamb as a guide. Sanded fins and glued to body tube on reference lines. Glued launch lug along body tube fin joint and filleted fins and launch lug joints. Made copy of shock cord mount, cut it out and glued shock cord to it. Glued shock cord mount assembly inside forward end of body tube by at least 2″.
  • 09/02/2005 – Wiped model with dry cloth and applied first coat of Krylon Gloss Black #1601 spray paint.
  • 09/04/2005 – Carefully removed self adhesive decals and applied as per instruction sheet. This completes construction of Estes Black Diamond model rocket #1452.
