Build History

  • 08/24/2002 – Purchased Estes Sky Writer from Walmart in Seymour, IN for $8.88 (Retail $12.99).
  • 09/20/2002 – Took pictures of kit. Opened kit and found all parts included. Made part measurements and recorded them on page 12 of Book #2. Measured blued engine mount tube at 1″ and 2-1/2″ from aft end. Cut a 1/8″ slot at 2-1/2″ mark and inserted hook of engine retainer. Placed a bead of glue just in from the 1″ mark and slid the black engine hook retainer in place up to the mark. Ran another bead of glue inside the forward end of the engine mount tube and glued the green engine block flush with the end. Aligned the slot with the fin unit with the engine holder. Slid the fin unit down the engine mount assembly. Applied glue to upper portion of engine mount assembly with rear tubes even. Put glue inside the upper yellow body tube and inserted the red tube coupler to the half inch mark. Cemented was put around the upper tube section of the fin unit. Glued the inside of the upper body tube to the red tube coupler. Glued the shock cord to its mount and then inside the upper body tube. Marked the lower body tube5-1/2″ from the aft end.
  • 09/21/2002 – Glued the launch lug at the 5-1/2″ mark. Tied the free end of the shock cord to the nose cone after removing the flange material from the nose cone eyelet. Filleted the launch lug. Placed the self adhesive decals on the model. This completes construction of Estes Sky Writer model rocket #1260.
