Build History
- 085/15/2002 – Purchased Estes #2138 Firebird from Rocket Gals for $7.00 (Retail $11.49).
- 11/25/2002 – Opened kit. Scanned nose cone, fins, decal and plans. Took pictures. Copied page 3 of plans and cut out shock cord mount. Measured body tube, nose cone and fin. Marked blue motor tube at 2-1/2″, 1″ & 1/2″ from aft end. Cut a 1/8″ slot at 2-1/2″ mark and inserted engine hook. Moved retainer clip over engine hook and to 1″ mark. Glued it in place. Glued centering rings at 1/2″ & 2-1/2″ marks and filleted joints.
- 11/26/2002 – Glued shock cord to shock cord mount and inside forward end of body tube by 2″. Glued fins into slots and filleted joints. Glued launch lug to body tube7-1/2″ from aft end and filleted joints.
- 07/08/2003 – Sanded fins with 400 grit sandpaper and applied first coat of balsa filler.
- 07/10/2003 – Applied second coat of balsa filler.
- 07/12/2003 – Sanded fins with 400 gri sandpaper.
- 11/22/2003 – Spray painted the entire model with Krylon #1501 Gloss White.
- 12/12/2003 – Applied self adhesive decals to model using photo card as a guide. This completes construction of Estes Firebird model rocket #2138.
