Build History

  • 09/15/2021 Took pictures of package and components. Scanned components. Measured components and recorded in Book #3 Page 86.
  • 09/22/2021 – Glued thrust ring even with forward end of motor mount tube. Marked motor mount tube 1/4″ from each end and glued centering ring. Filleted joints. Cut tube marking guide from copy and marked body tube with a 5″ long fin line. Moved template and marked launch lug line 5″ from aft end for a length of 2″. Cut out six reinforcement fin tabs and glued to fins. Cut shock cord mount from copy.
  • 09/23/2021 – Placed motor into motor mount tube and screwed engine holder into aft centering ring until it touches motor. Glued fins and reinforcement tabs along fin guide lines even with aft end of body tube. Glued aft end of motor mount assembly even with body tube. Glued shock cord into mount. Glued shock cord mount assembly inside body tube at least 1-1/2″ from forward end.
  • 09/24/2021 – Glued and filleted launch lug to body tube. Tied a Kevlar cord through Nose Cone ring and then to end of shock cord. Model is now ready for primer and paint.
  • 09/26/2021 – Primed model with Krylon #327914 primer flat white spray paint.
  • 11/23/2022 – Spray painted nose cone and body tube with Krylon #3421 Gloss Pumpkin Orange.
  • 11/28/2022 – Masked nose cone and body tube.
  • 11/29/2022 – Spray painted with Krylon#51601 Gloss White. Sprayed fins with Rust-oleum #3254146 Gloss Black. Removed masking.
  • 12/02/2022 – Spray painted aft end of body tube and nose cone to cover up excess black paint with Krylon #3421 Gloss Pumpkin Orange. After paint dried some black still showed so sanded spots until black was gone and repainted.
  • 12/05/2022 – Could not find decal so made a new one using the attached image and blank decal paper for laser printer. Applied water soluble decal to model using photo card as guide.
  • 12/08/2022 – Found original decal, placed a wet rag around decal on model to aid in its removal. Scraped off part decal and then sanded remainder using yellow sanding stick. This completes construction of Sunward # 00 004, Moondance model rocket.
  • 12/11/2022 – Due to damaged paint, repainted body tube with Krylon #3421 Gloss Pumpkin Orange in area where decal was removed.
